LIGHT!
A popular question in this part of the world is, "...is there light?" This often arises as a result of the epileptic nature of electricity supply we often experience. More than that, you may be familiar with such shout as "Up NEPA!", meaning electricity has just been restored. Other times, it could be "Ahaaa!", "Ohhh!", "Hmmm", it signals light out unexpectedly. All these point to the necessity of light. Light is indispensable, in fact, God during the creation activities had to create light first. "And God said, Let there be light: and there was light."(Genesis 1:3). In short, where there is no light, nothing or very little can be done. I remember an occasion of travelling at night with a bad vehicle headlamp, can you imagine, the journey was slow and quite frustrating.
The truth we must come to know and accept is that "Ye [we] are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid."(Matthew 5:14). Being lights of the world implies we are to make life peaceful, interesting, liveable and enjoyable(Romans 12:18). We need light to enjoy our journey on earth and to show the way to people in darkness.
My friend, are you a light? If you are, then you must shine and dispel darkness around you. John 1:5 says, "And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not" The darkness here is pointing at sin and its vices(see Romans 1:28-32). As light, you must fight sin and unrighteousness by living the life of Christ and persuading others around you for Christ.
I may need add, do you know there are different kinds of light; the bright and deem. Good for the bright because it is achieving its purpose, many are drawing closer to it, but the deem will always send the wrong signal because it rises and falls. The interesting news is that darkness can become light and the deem light can become bright. The choice is now yours either to call on the source of light(God- Genesis 1:3) or remain in darkness. "Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life"(John 8:12). Jesus is the light of the world, communicate with Him through your prayers now and be the light He wants you to be.
Beloved, are you a bright and shining light? Thank God, but always pray for Grace to keep your light on and shining and you will not experience a light out. "Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall." (1Corinthians 10:12).
Fellow countrymen, let's also remember to pray for the electricity condition of our great and dear nation.
